Scholarships Presented to Boca Raton Universities and Foundation
By Greater Boca Raton Estate Planning Council
The Greater Boca Raton Estate Planning Council (GBREPC) held its monthly dinner and networking meeting on February 17, at Woodfield Country Club.
The event recognized the GBREPC’s longstanding commitment to providing Palm Beach County students with access to higher education. Representatives from Florida Atlantic University (FAU), the George Snow Scholarship Fund, Lynn University and Palm Beach State College, were brought together for a special check presentation ceremony, presided over by Paul Roman, GBREPC president. GBREPC also sent checks to the area’s four public high schools.
Accepting the scholarship award for FAU was Stacey M. Turner, director of development & outreach at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. “A tremendous number of FAU students with hopes, dreams and aspirations could simply not attend FAU or any institution of higher learning without the support of scholarships and people who care,” said Turner.
The George Snow Scholarship Fund reaches out to Palm Beach County students in need. Established in 1982 to honor the memory of George Snow, the Boca Raton-based fund was represented at the event by the fund’s president, Tim Snow. “I thank the GBREPC membership for their generosity in underwriting a scholarship for a deserving student with an interest in law or finance,” says Snow. “We look forward to selecting the student and to guiding him or her through college and career plans.”
John Gallo, senior major gifts officer at Lynn University, was also on hand for the check presentation. “It’s great to accept the largesse of this wonderful organization,” Gallo said. “In today’s world, scholarship assistance is very important to students. This gift will make a difference in the lives of local students.”
As provost of Palm Beach State College, Dr. Bernadette M. Russell fully understands how community support impacts local educational institutions. “We are very appreciative of this gift from the Greater Boca Raton Estate Planning Council and will give 100 percent of it directly to our students who aspire to move forward in school,” said Russell. “Many of our students are highly dependent on scholarships. Need-based scholarships help fund tuition costs and enable students to not only complete their degrees, but to reach new life goals.”
Attending on behalf of the event sponsor, Sabadell Bank & Trust, were Tony Comorat, senior vice president and wealth management director; and Ramona Zapper, senior vice president and wealth management director. “Sabadell Bank & Trust is delighted to partner with the GBREPC by sponsoring this event,” said Comorat. “We are in the trust and investment business and find the GBREPC to be the area’s highest caliber organization of trust attorneys and estate management professionals. This is our second time as a GBREPC event sponsor and we look forward to more of such opportunities.”
The guest speaker was University of Missouri law professor Christopher Hoyt, whose talk was titled, “IRA Bequests, 2014 Developments and Charitable Planning.”
