The Greater Boca Raton Estate Planning Council (GBREPC) kicked off its 2013-2014 season with an elegant and well-attended meet-and-greet cocktail reception for members and prospective members on September 17, at the Addison of Boca Raton. Built in 1926 by the legendary Addison Mizner, this exquisitely restored event and catering venue exemplifies the signature Spanish-style architecture that Mizner brought to Boca Raton. The reception was sponsored by Wells Fargo Private Bank.
Representing Wells Fargo Private Bank in Boca Raton were Sharon DaBrusco, CTFA, Senior Vice President and Wealth Advisor and Debra A. Cancilla, CTFA, Vice President, Trust and Fiduciary Specialist. Both DaBrusco and Cancilla are Past Presidents and Directors Emeritus of the GBREPC.
“This is Wells Fargo Private Bank’s third year as a GBREPC event sponsor,” says DaBrusco, a 20+ year member of the GBREPC. “Because of the GBREPC, professionals from different disciplines are given the opportunity to learn from one another, forging relationships which make it easier for us to work together to achieve the financial and estate planning goals of our clients. We value collaborating with the members of the council to help maximize what our clients leave to their families.”
“I have been also been a member of the GBREPC for more than 20 years,” says Cancilla. “I enjoy being a part of this organization for it allows me to help the Boca Raton community by responding to the estate planning needs of clients in the area. In sponsoring this event, Wells Fargo Private Bank is demonstrating its support and understanding of the GBREPC’s mission to serve the public.”
As the GBREPC’s vice president of membership Leslie A. McCullough, CFP®, AEP®, CTFA, is committed to continuing to grow the organization. McCullough, who is Vice President, Personal Trust Administration at Northern Trust, believes that networking opportunities and educational programs are key to retaining existing members and attracting new members. “We must sustain this organization to benefit the community,” she says. “GBREPC members share a common bond – we all want to make sure our clients’ wishes are met. The friendships and sharing of ideas that form as a result of the GBREPC make us better as professionals. This organization has longevity. As membership vice president, I am eager to continue this tradition.”
New to the GBREPC and new to Boca Raton, Jonathan Bauer, an attorney at Proskauer Rose LLP, reflects the organization’s future. “There isn’t a place in the country that is better than Boca Raton for doing estate planning,” he says. “Being a member of this preeminent chapter will give me great networking opportunities and access to wonderful educational programming.”
Brian K. Duffey, Esq., Shareholder of The Duffey Law Firm, is a long-time member of the GBREPC. As this year’s vice president of programming, Duffey has already been instrumental in planning the upcoming season of dinner meetings. “Typically our meetings reflect a high member turnout,” says Duffey. “Because we have such a diverse membership, I have ensured that topics be of interest and meaning to everyone.” The distinguished roster of guest speakers will address a variety of hot topics that are relevant to estate planning professionals -- topics such as, Estate Planning and Same Sex Unions, Digital Assets in Estate Planning, Best Practices in Philanthropic Planning and Conflict Considerations for Drafting Attorneys.
The GBREPC will hold its first dinner meeting of the season on Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 5:30 – 8:00 pm at the Woodfield Country Club. The meeting, sponsored by the Boca Raton Regional Hospital Foundation, will feature guest speaker Professor Lee-Ford Tritt who will address, “State of the (Same Sex) Union: the Estate Planning Landscape after DOMA.”

Founded in 1984, the GBREPC has a growing membership of more than 150 professionals from the fields of accounting, legal, trust, insurance, financial planning and planned giving. A chapter of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils, the GBREPC provides networking opportunities for local professionals who value collaboration and career growth. Monthly meetings, in season, keep members and their guests current on estate planning trends and changes in tax laws. In addition, the organization strives to provide the public with a better understanding and appreciation of the services that estate and financial planners offer to their clients.
